Saturday's Auction at Daytona Expo

The USARK  Auction was a great success.  The JHS had many members there but Teresa and Courtney pretty much took charge of the initial setup of all the tables and organizing of the auction room. They were wore out at the end of the day but they did a fantastic job.  They did a GREAT job of representing the JHS well.  The auction raised $44,000 with Zoo Med matching that dollar for dollar.  Please remember that USARK is working hard to help us keep our reptiles. Please support USARK.

The Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve (SIWR) is being threatened by strip mining. Cape Alumina Pty Ltd has lodged mining lease applications which include approximately 12,300 ha of the Reserve. Cape Alumina company documents indicate an intention to mine 50 plus million tons over a 10 year period commencing 2010. The greater part of this mine is on SIWR

There is a crisis in the reptile community, a crisis of apathy. We are beset by interests that would end the hobby and business that all of us love. Animal Rights groups have been on the march for eight years on a national campaign to end reptile ownership state by state. They have successfully enacted their model legislation and restricted private ownership of many reptiles in about a dozen states.
